I got out of Cabo late this morning. I had received a depressing weather forecast showing little wind for the next couple of days south of Cabo. But I can’t handle any more Cabo San Lucas, so I figured I’d just head out and bob around at sea.
As it turns out, as soon as I got round the arch rock at Cabo and into the ocean, the wind was westerly at 17 knots or so. The past several hours have been absolutely perfect sailing conditions. “Ventura” is moving along at over 6.5 kts, her max speed. It’s warm and sunny. I saw a huge fish jump straight up from the water and splash back down.
Perhaps the forecaster will be right and the wind will die tonight, but for now it couldn’t be better. I did a 15:00 sun sight with a perfectly clear horizon. I’m so glad to be on my way again! My course is due south for now. I plan to keep that course for about 200 or 300 miles and then I’ll turn SE to head toward Panama. It’s nice to be offshore away from most of the traffic.
Fair winds!
